The Sharp Metropolitan Medical Center Master Plan Implementation Project consists of multiple projects that are part of their campus-wide improvements and upgrades including approximately 367,000 square feet of hospital building replacement and 193,000 square feet of remodeling at the existing Sharp Memorial Medical Center facility.
Level 2 creates a suite of operating rooms and cardiac procedure rooms that can be used flexibly by the entire array of Sharp’s surgical and cardiac services modalities. Connected suites of PACU, preoperative, and post-operative programs that serve the entire contingent of procedure spaces are located to gain the greatest operational efficiencies. This new solution also provides integration with Imaging and multiple choices for ICU locations to which physicians and clinical staff may assign patients. An existing ICU is located on the same floor as surgery and at the base of a tower dedicated to acute care beds. A second new ICU will be located one level above with access to acute care patient beds located directly adjacent and above it. Upon completion, the project will house 750 patient beds.
This extensive project includes work in all the facility buildings as well as the rerouting of existing site utilities, creating a new front entry, incorporating seismic upgrades, demolition of two existing eight-level patient towers down to the second level podium base, construction of a new central energy plant and oxygen tank yard, a six-level addition to the Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women and Newborns, a new seven-story inpatient tower, a campus connector, and a new two-story addition that provides expansion of emergency and surgical services.
