Nancy Friend Pritzker Psychiatry Building

July 8, 2024 by

The Nancy Friend Pritzker Psychiatry Building is named for the late sister of philanthropists John Pritzker and Lisa Stone Pritzker, who died by suicide in 1972 at the age of 25. Spurred by a $60 M donation from the Pritzker family, the building houses both the Child Teen and Family Center (CTFC) and the Department of Psychiatry (DOP), doubling UCSF’s mental healthcare capacity to 80,000 annual visits and providing mental health care to patients of all ages. In addition to offering clinical care, the facility is also home to training programs in psychiatry and psychology as well as state-of-the-art research space for experts from multiple disciplines to collaborate, including pediatrics, neurology, radiology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, anesthesiology and obstetrics/gynecology. An on-site gym allows for the evaluation of neurodevelopmental disorders while an on-site kitchen serves as a treatment space for patients with eating disorders.

In support of furthering mental health research, a 180-seat auditorium and associated convening center sit at the base of the building’s atrium for members of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, the broader UCSF neuroscience community and numerous national and international partners to share thoughts, collaborate and learn.
